Episode one sees Willie kick start his new venture with a visit to Barcelona – a city which has long had a vibrant and progressive chocolate scene. He samples local opinion on British chocolate and takes in some of the city’s top chocolate boutiques. It’s evident to Willie that Barcelona has embraced ‘real chocolate’ and he returns home committed to encourage us Brits to do the same. After meeting with a group of local self proclaimed chocoholics, it dawns on Willie that the battle to switch our tastes from milky sweet confectionary to flavourful dark chocolate may be harder than he first thought. Meanwhile, things on the production front aren’t any easier as he struggles to raise the £500,000 necessary to expand and re-develop his chocolate factory to produce his chocolate bars. Some relief is offered by a return trip to Venezuela where he manages to source the perfect beans for his new bar.
