The Food Chain

About the Show

About the Show

Whether it’s fresh free-range eggs, juicy Scottish raspberries, a catch of sardines from Cornwall or every chip shop’s favourite spud, the Maris Piper – this series follows our favourite foods on their extraordinary journey from source to plate.

Starting with the actual food producers, we learn the secrets of the food supply chain; from the land or sea, to the supermarkets, top restaurants, chip shops or tea rooms. This journey celebrates the hard work of the people who power our food distribution networks, from start to finish, as well as the creativity of home cooks, professional bakers and leading chefs.

Each episode follows two products as they travel towards their delicious destiny, connecting a network of people across the country in the process. We see Bramley apples and Essex sea salt converge to create a refined tea time treat, while barley and shitake mushrooms meet to make a warming risotto.
Two featured producers see where their ingredients are used for the first time and, in a final twist, our two prized products combine to create one very special dish – be it a power-packed meal to fuel Olympic athletes, or an elegant centerpiece at a wedding.
