This first episode is about the sea change dream going horribly wrong! Shell Harbour is a busy beach holiday destination - an hour and half drive south of Sydney. Running a successful restaurant here should be a no brainer – but for our two competing teams it’s anything but.
Angelina’s is a traditional Italian restaurant that has been struggling to sustain itself for some time. Owner Brendan has lost the plot when it comes to the direction for the business. He is quickly losing respect from his staff on account of his indecisiveness and soft management. Brendan’s head chef William is ambitious and therefore frustrated the business is doing so poorly. He cannot understand why Brendan won’t trust him to make changes to the menu or standard of service. His aggressive approach with other staff gets everyone offside.
Tandoori Junction opened 2 ½ years ago when mother of three, Melita saw an opportunity in sponsoring a respected Indian chef to open an Indian restaurant in the Shell Harbour precinct. Time-poor and barely breaking even, Melita feels she has been forced to put the restaurant on the market but holds out hope she can keep the dream alive. Dhanpal has 25 years experience in the kitchen and believes his gifts in the kitchen are ‘god-given’ but doesn’t take responsibility for the fact he’s at the centre of serious tension in the restaurant. Apprentice chef, Steven has a background of petty crime and looks to Melita as the only thing keeping him on the straight and narrow.
Both Shell Harbour restaurants have a nice view, pity about the takings…. as they face The Chopping Block.
