In this fascinating series chef Gary Rhodes goes island-hopping, visiting eight tropical Caribbean islands to meet the people and taste and cook their traditional food. Joined by his two travelling sous chefs, Gary starts his trip on the largest of the islands, Jamaica. While in Jamaica Gary is joined by his step-father John, who is from the region. Gary and John visit one of Montego Bay’s busiest markets, while sous chef Hasan heads up into the hills to learn about Rastafarian vegetarian cuisine. Gary cooks classic Jamaican dishes including, curried goat, brown stewed chicken and saltfish. Gary also visits Trinidad, Tobago, Curacao, St Lucia, Grenada, Antigua and Barbados and learns the multi-cultural influences on their regional dishes before cooking a nine-course Caribbean banquet to impress some Caribbean natives at the end of his trip. Will his food please their discerning palates?
