Episode Guide

Series 1 Nightmares Revisited - Bonapartes

Series 172 · Episode 4

Last time around Bonapartes was a class A NIGHTMARE. Over a year later and Gordon returns to see whether anything's changed. Sue Ray took over Bonapartes Wine Bar and basement Restaurant on Silsden high street just over two years ago. Pretty soon, the business was in trouble - BIG TIME. Bonapartes was dying a death: customers were thin on the ground, the competition was cleaning up and the money was running out. Cue some Ramsay tough-talking. In one gruelling week Bonapartes was transformed from a no hoper with a liability for a head chef into a buzzing bistro. The kitchen was cleaned up, the menu overhauled (Out go the scallops, pigeon, venison... and in comes Lancashire hotpot, fish and chips, liver and onions) and the dining room was given a much needed bistro makeover. And it worked for Valentine's night. But the SUCCESS didn't last as the old bad habits soon crept back in and Sue had no choice but to close the restaurant. Tim and Sue soon parted company with Sue left disillusioned with the Ramsay shock treatment and complained to the press. One year later, has Sue re-opened the restaurant and is Tim up for one more Ramsay challenge? Well, Bonapartes restaurant has since hit ROCK BOTTOM - it's all shut up with no one home except a telephone answer machine. Sue's proving hard to track down but Gordon manages to find Tim. And the bad news is that Bonapartes no longer serves food - it's strictly a bar. Seems like Sue has lost faith in the restaurant business, but, for Tim, it was more of a missed opportunity: if the team has listened to Gordon's advice and ACTED on it then Bonapartes had every chance of being a SUCCESS. Tim has drawn a line under his cooking career and is now pursuing a career in television. Finally, Gordon has a meeting with Sue off camera. Sadly, Bonapartes is in the hands of an insolvency company with Sue narrowly escaping bankruptcy. The bar is still open and Sue will continue to run it until she can find a buyer for the whole business. Even for Gordon and the Kitchen Nightmares team, sometimes you have to admit DEFEAT. And Tim still can't good a decent omelette...
