Combat Chefs follows the unsung heroes who feed Britains 120,000 troops. From the raw recruits learning their trade at the Army School of Catering in Aldershot to the chefs feeding troops on the frontline in Afghanistan's Helmand Province, Combat Chefs focuses on the soldiers who cook for Queen and Country.
Follow the journey of the raw army chef recruits as they get to grips with the unique skill of improvised cookery - the ability to cook up a hearty meal using nothing more than an old dustbin and open fire, an essential skill used by experienced army chefs in Afghanistan to feed troops stationed at remote bases. Meanwhile back at the historic London District base, a team of Army chefs are under the watchful eye of renowned perfectionist Major Harry Lomas.
With 35 years experience of army catering, Harry's standards are high and with his chefs preparing canapés for State functions, cooking for high profile dinners with Jamie Oliver as the guest of honour and the opportunity to compete in the biggest culinary competition amongst the armed services, it's not without good reason.
Despite Harry's tough love approach, his true passion is mentoring and nurturing the young chefs in his care. Major Lomas is determined that his London army chefs go for gold and his chefs undergo a gruelling selection process and perfect the dishes. Will Harry's young chefs deliver gold for team army or will the big occasion get the better of them?... Read more.
