Vue de monde is testament to the belief that restaurant food can be a wondrous, unforgettable experience.

The philosophy at Vue de monde is to provide a dining experience that cannot be created at home. This is achieved through dedication to the dining experience as a whole; from the sourcing of rare ingredients and an uncompromising approach to classical technique, to a commitment to the very best in restaurant service including crockery, cutlery and glassware.

Whilst taking its inspiration from recipes dating back hundreds of years, the menu at Vue de monde has evolved to encompass a modern interpretation. Classical ingredients such as Strasbourg Foie Gras, black Perigord truffles and caviar are presented along side hand sourced local produce.

The ‘Menu Gourmand’ (from 5 courses $100 at lunch, $150 at dinner) sees a vast array of dishes available on any given day and through communication with the table the waiter creates a tailored dining experience specific to each party. Once a menu structure is established, matching wines can be organised to go with each course by our sommelier. Alternatively our extensive wine list offers a large selection of wines by the bottle.

There is also the option to have the Menu du Jour, which is 2 courses and a glass of wine $55 or 3 courses and a glass of wine for $70 (served at lunch only Monday-Friday).

The wine list has its focus on the great wines of the old world celebrating a range of both iconic and boutique producers. Hand sourced wines from the new world add character and depth to the list.

Whilst being in the upper echelons of fine dining in Australia I must be honest and say that I wasn't as excited by my experience at Vue de Monde after leaving as much as my anticipation leading up to it. Please don't get me wrong, this is still quite high on my list of awesome dining experiences and for purists who appreciate traditional french cuisine it is virtually flawless. I have been lucky enough to also sample some of the other top end "must do" restaurants in recent times and their approach to modern cuisine has in my opinion given them a slight edge over Shannon's more familiar flare.
To be fair, the sheer indulgence of the luxury ingredients and ridiculously fresh produce delivers a world class dining experience and the truffle risotto really has to be eaten to be believed so the massive price tag is justified in its decadence. On our visit the restaurant was fully booked which left the service feeling a tad rushed which was a shame as I tried only to engage the service staff in a brief explanation of each dish to better understand and accordingly appreciate its origins, this was only partially successful as the meals were flying through the pass at break neck speed and didn't really afford them the time for banter.
By all means Vue de Monde is an unforgettable dining experience and highly recommended but it would be dishonest to say that is the best dining experience I've ever had. We are extremely fortunate as consumers that there are some outstanding up and coming chefs in Australia who are already nipping at the heals of our famous few and their fresh, modern approacch to cooking styles will be bound to turn a few heads and keep the industry on its toes.

It was the most amazing food i have ever tasted. Individual dishes which are made and catered to your taste and desire.

It is the ultimate in fine dining where the food rules, but has a wine list and service to match.

This is truly the finest dining experience I have ever enjoyed. From the phenomenal service to the delightful lack of menu you feel special from the moment you walk through the door until you are trying to figure out just how you will fit in one more petit four. The truffle risotto is truly something special.
