potatoes cooked on cooktop infused with herbs, garlic and cream, finished with melted cheese topping. It is delicious and quick to cook.


  • 5 to 6 medium sized potatoes

  • 3 to 4 cloves of garlic

  • mixed fresh herbs eg thyme, oregano, lemon balm, marjoram.

  • 1 onion

  • 1/2 cup of cream

  • 50 grams of butter

  • salt and pepper

  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese


  • 1.

    In a heavy based, shallow pot,put in butter and layer thinly sliced potatoes with the thinly sliced onions, finely chopped garlic, chopped herbs ad salt and pepper.

  • 2.

    Pour the cream on top.

  • 3.

    Put lid on pot and cook at the lowest heat on cooktop for about 20 minutes. When cooked sprinkle cheese over and put back lid for another few minutes until chese has melted.

  • 4.

    Serve with sour cream or as an accompaniment to meat dishes.


onions can be put at the bottom of the pan with the buteer instead of layering between the potaoes. It gives a more caramalised oniony taste.
