Tasty BBQ Bird with a Beer In Its Bum


  • 1 chicken

  • 1 Lime

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 2 teaspoons smokey paprika

  • 2 teaspoons chilli flakes

  • 2 teaspoons salt

  • 2 teaspoons cajun spice mix

  • 0.5 can of beer

  • 10mL Olive Oil

  • 1 large freezer bag


  • 1.

    Place whole chicken in a large mixing bowl

  • 2.

    Cover the chicken with 1 teaspoon each of paprika, cajun spice mix, garlic powder, chilli flakes, salt

  • 3.

    Using hands rub the seasoning into the chicken

  • 4.

    Add juice of half a lime and 5 ml of olive oil and rub the chicken again

  • 5.

    Turn over chicken and repeat covering the chicken with the previous volumes of spices, lime juice and olive oil ensuring the seasoning is thoroughly rubbed into the chicken

  • 6.

    Place the seasoned chicken into the large freezer bag and leave in the fridge to marinate overnight if possible or for at least 3 hours

  • 7.

    Place the 0.5 can of beer in the middle of a rigid baking tray

  • 8.

    Carefully open the cavity of the chicken and slide it over the can of beer so its legs straddle the can and the legs and bottom allow the chicken to balance on the can

  • 9.

    Place chicken into a preheated BBQ onto the hot plate side with the grills on the opposite side of the BBQ on high.

  • 10.

    Cover the BBQ with the hood and cook the chicken for 2 to 3 hours rotating the position of chicken to the heat half way through the cooking process
