Found this recipe written in my mothers shorthand in a recipe book, she forgot to add the flour amounts so the first time we made them they were a bit flat :)

Ingredients

  • 100g Butter

  • 100g Cooking Chocolate (Dark works best)

  • 5 ml Vanilla Essence

  • .5 packet Walnuts (about 125g)

  • .75 cup of Chopped Dates

  • 1 cup of castor sugar

  • 1.25 cup SR Flour sifted

  • 2 Large Eggs

Method

  • 1.

    Preheat oven 220 c & flour baking tray 20 x20 cm

  • 2.

    Over boiling water melt, butter & chocolate together.

  • 3.

    Leave to cool (just enough to be able to touch mix withour burning yourself)

  • 4.

    When cool add vanilla and sugar, stir in well.

  • 5.

    Add walnuts and dates.

  • 6.

    Add eggs and mix well, fold in sifted flour.

  • 7.

    Pour mix into tray and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

  • 8.

    Remove from oven and cover with foil for another 20 minutes.

  • 9.

    Let cool and cut into brownies.

Notes

You can add coconut to the top or mix if you like, serve with a dollop of cream or vanilla ice cream.
