Found this recipe written in my mothers shorthand in a recipe book, she forgot to add the flour amounts so the first time we made them they were a bit flat :)
1.
Preheat oven 220 c & flour baking tray 20 x20 cm
2.
Over boiling water melt, butter & chocolate together.
3.
Leave to cool (just enough to be able to touch mix withour burning yourself)
4.
When cool add vanilla and sugar, stir in well.
5.
Add walnuts and dates.
6.
Add eggs and mix well, fold in sifted flour.
7.
Pour mix into tray and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
8.
Remove from oven and cover with foil for another 20 minutes.
9.
Let cool and cut into brownies.

Notes
