This is chocolate cake that my family got from my Aunty Jan. I've made a change to the oven temp and cooking time to make a moister cake.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup self-raising flour

  • 2 tbsp cocoa

  • 2 eggs

  • 0.5 cup milk

  • 0.5 tsp vanilla essence

Method

  • 1.

    Preheat oven to 150C, prepare 20cm ring cake pan

  • 2.

    Melt butter/margarine

  • 3.

    Mix all dry ingredients together, mix all wet ingredients together except butter/marg, then mix wet into dry then mix in melted butter/marg

  • 4.

    Beat well, with an electric mixer, for about 5 minutes. the mixture will become lighter in colour

  • 5.

    Pour into prepared pan and bake for about 1 hour, do the skewer test for readiness

  • 6.

    Allow to cool 3-5 minutes, then turn onto cake rake to cool completely and top with your favourite topping

flour and cocoa can be sifted, if you prefer.
if you need to feed cake to more people a double quantity makes a 19cm square cake, and cook for about 1.5 hrs.
skewer test: skewer or thin bladed knife inserted into middle of cake when comes out with only small amount of sticky crumbs attached this cake is ready.

because of simple ingredients and mixing method this is good for getting the kids to help .
