Tasty Ribs first oven cooked and finished on the grill


  • American Style Pork Ribs-one full rack for 2 people (full rack measures approximately 60 cm long and 30 cms wide)

  • Basting sauce (see below)

  • SBQ sauce (see below)

  • Salt

  • Water

  • SBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup Masterfood American Mustard

  • 1.1/2 cups Heinz Big Red Tomato Sauce

  • 1 cup White Vinegar

  • 1/2 cup Raw sugar

  • 1/2 tsp each salt, pepper

  • 1.1/2 tsp each cyaenne pepper, chilli powder, garlic powder (use fresh when available)

  • Fresh Parsley, Dill Weed (Dried dill can be used)

  • Basting sauce:

  • 1 cup Soy sauce

  • 6 tbs. Lemon Juice (or lime juice)

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce + Tomato sauce combined

  • Fresh parsley, garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper


  • 1.

    Please read this entire page before commencing.

  • 2.

    Make SBQ sauce at least one day in advance (keeps in fridge 2 months)

  • 3.

    Mix together (using Bamix appliance or similar) and pour into a large glass jar.

  • 4.

    Have butcher cut each rack in half through the bone to make shorter ribs

  • 5.

    Sprinkle with water and lots of salt

  • 6.

    Put in disposable roaster and cover with double foil

  • 7.

    Bake in oven 180C or for 1 to 1 ½ hours until fork comes out easily. For large amounts of ribs it may take up to 2 hours. Check after 1 hr.

  • 8.

    To bake in covered BBQ, prepare as above, preheat to Medium, and check after 45 minutes. Move uncooked ribs to top to pan if necessary.

  • 9.

    Make Basting Sauce

  • 10.

    Spread basting sauce on each rib, meat side

  • 11.

    Cook other side first 4 minutes on BBQ

  • 12.

    Cook meat side another 4 minutes on BBQ

  • 13.

    Serve ribs on large platter and put SBQ sauce on table to use as a Dipping Sauce. This is a semi hot sauce that can be made hotter if you prefer by adding more cayenne or chilis. Do your own thing.


This is delicious and you need lots of napkins.
