Spice up your cheese board with this festive chutney. It's great with cold meats too or in sandwiches, especially turkey ones!

Ingredients

  • 1.5kg Bramley apples, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 300g fresh cranberries

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2 star anise

  • 3 strips of orange peel

  • 6 tbsp cider vinegar

  • 800g granulated sugar

Method

  • 1.

    Place the apples and cranberries in a large pan with the cinnamon sticks and orange peel.

  • 2.

    Add the sugar and 6 tbsp of vinegar.

  • 3.

    Place on a low heat until the sugar dissolves.

  • 4.

    Increase the heat and cook for 45 minutes, stirring frequently until very thick.

  • 5.

    To test, spoon a little of the chutney onto a cold plate it should form a firm a thick chutney.

  • 6.

    Spoon into sterilised jars.

  • 7.

    Seal, label and store in a cool, dark place.

  • 8.

    Serve with some cold meat and cheese.
