For the syrup:
Melt the sugar and rum together whisk in the butter to make a shiny syrup.
For the pudding:
Butter a 1½ pint pudding basin. In a bowl mix breadcrumbs, flour, raisins and suet together. Mix well, then add salt, mixed spice and orange rind.
In a small basin beat eggs and rum together then add to the dry mix stirring well. Fill the pudding basin with the mixture,cover with greaseproof paper and foil and tie with string. Steam for approximately 4 hours, turn out onto a heated dish and serve with the syrup.
