Jules Christmas Pudding


  • 75 g white or brown breadcrumbs

  • 50 g Plain Flour

  • 100 g brown sugar

  • 100 g Vegetable shortening

  • 100 g Raisins

  • 100 g sultanas

  • 25 g Glace Cherries

  • 50 g mixed peel

  • 1 Lemon rind only

  • 1 orange rind only

  • 1 teaspoon mixed spice

  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 tablespoon Buttermilk

  • 2 organic Eggs

  • 1 cup Irish whisky

  • 0.5 metre square of pudding cloth or muslin


  • 1.

    Mix all the dry ingredients

  • 2.

    Add the beaten eggs & butter milk

  • 3.

    Butter a pudding bowl & line with pudding cloth or muslin

  • 4.

    Add the pudding mix, fold over the cloth & tie

  • 5.

    Steam for two hours & allow to cool

  • 6.

    To serve on Christmas day, steam again for one hour

  • 7.

    Turn out the pudding & remove the cloth

  • 8.

    Pour over the Irish Whisky & set alight

  • 9.

    Decorate with fresh holly leaves

  • 10.

    Serve with custard

I am going to try this for Christmas this year. It looks like the one my mother used to make.

I Make Traditional Pudding ever Xmas every one expects it i always make extra so i can have some in winter and give one to my brother in law he expect it cause he loves my pud , this year he wont be able to spend Xmas with us so I'm sending him one to make him happy

I think its meant to read 25gr glaze cherries as glasses sounds a little odd!
