This irresistible Greek appetiser of saganaki cheese with figs and honey is an easy but impressive appetiser. 

Ingredients

  • 1-2 blocks of Artemis Keflatori Saganaki cheese (200g)

  • 1/4 cup plain flour, or just enough for coating

  • olive oil

  • 4 figs (or approximately two per person, feel free to serve more)

  • Honey, to drizzle

Method

  • 1.

    Slice sagnagki in half.

  • 2.

    Place the cheese in cool water then dredge into plain flour, shaking of the excess flour. This will help the saganaki form a nice golden crust and to hold its shape when fried.

  • 3.

    Drizzle some olive oil into a small, heavy-bottomed pan. As soon as the oil heats, add the cheese and fry for a few minutes on both sides, flipping the saganaki carefully with a spatula, until nicely colored.

  • 4.

    Serve with fresh figs and drizzle with honey.
