This divine, Italian dessert is simple and delicious.
Put sugar, wine and 500ml water, cinnamon, and the star anise in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat until sugar has dissolved.
Add the pears, making sure they are fully submerged. Bring to the boil, lower the heat and simmer for 10 mins.
Remove from the heat and leave the pears to cool in the liquid. Approx 30 mins.
Remove the pears from the liquid and place in serving dish. Boil wine mixture over a high heat until reduced by half and leave to cool before pouring over the pears - serve with mascarpone
