Hemsley + Hemsley - Healthy & Delicious

Made with cacao, maple syrup, nuts and berries, this breakfast recipe will put a spring in your step all day.

  • 200g buckwheat groats (activated)*

  • 100 mls water

  • 1 x 400ml tin of coconut milk

  • Any combination of the following toppings:

  • Cacao nibs

  • Ground cinnamon

  • Cacao powder

  • Maple syrup

  • Chopped nuts (pecans, hazelnut, walnuts)

  • Fresh fruit (berries, banana etc.)

  • 1.

Place your soaked and rinsed buckwheat groats into a food processor and add your water and coconut milk.

  • 2.

Bring the pan to a simmer over a low-medium heat and allow the buckwheat to cook for 10-30 minutes, depending on how thick or thin you like your porridge. If you prefer a thin porridge you can also blend the buckwheat with a handheld blender once cooked.

  • 3.

Serve hot, with your preferred toppings.

*To activate your buckwheat groats, soak them in double the volume of filtered water using a glass or ceramic bowl. Leave at room temperature overnight or for 8 hours, loosely draped with a tea towel if you like. Rinse well and drain.Soaking increases the nutrients available and makes them easier to digest by helping to neutralise the negative effects of too much phytic acid and other anti-nutrients.
