Very Tasty bake with lots of flavour


  • Preheat oven to 170 deg C


  • 4 x large potato’s cut in half and then thinly sliced

  • 1 x large onion cut in half and thinly sliced

  • 3 cloves garlic crushed

  • 1/3 cup olive oil

  • 300ml bottle fresh cream

  • Cracked pepper

  • 6 full rashers bacon diced small, leave the fat on, but remove the rind

  • No salt

  • 2 x large cups of grated cheese

  • Baking dish about 320x180x50mm sides

    Mix the crushed garlic together with the olive oil and stir well

  • 3.

    With all the sliced potato and onion start layering the dish, making sure that the pieces are separated and loose and potato and onion mixed well.

  • 4.

    When you have used approximately half, Spoon half of the oil and garlic mix over the dish, this also makes the dish cook better.

  • 5.

    Now sprinkle half the bacon over the dish.

  • 6.

    Add cracked pepper over the dish at this point.

  • 7.

    Now repeat these last 4 steps again until there is no more food left.

  • 8.

    At this point it goes in the oven and for about 90 minutes making sure that the potato is cooked.

  • 9.

    Test it with a skewer.

  • 10.

    Take out of oven.

  • 11.

    When it’s very cooked on top and the potato is soft, Pour the cream slowly over the whole dish. Making sure that all parts get some cream..

  • 12.

    Finally sprinkle the cheese all over the dish, making sure that there is plenty to completely cover the dish.

  • 13.

    Place back in the hotter oven now at 180 deg for 30 minutes, or until the top is nice and brown and firm.


This dish serves well with all roasted meats, and salads.
