Barbecue Baked Beans

Forget boring, old baked beans and try this recipe made with bacon, pork and tomatoes. 


  • 10 slices bacon, diced

  • 1 brown onion, diced

  • 2 cups McCormick Grill Mates Hot n Spicy BBQ sauce

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup beef stock

  • 2-3 tablespoons molasses

  • 1 tablespoon Keen’s Mustard Powder

  • 2 teaspoons salt flakes

  • Ground pepper to taste

  • Pinch ground cloves

  • 4 tins butter beans (or cannelloni beans)

  • 1 tin crushed tomatoes

  • 1 cup pulled Pork (optional)

  • Fresh parsley, for garnish


  • 1.

    Preheat oven 150 degrees Celsius

  • 2.

    Heat bacon in oven proof pot (Dutch oven) on medium to low heat for 4 to 5 mins till fat renders out of bacon

  • 3.

    Add onion and cook stirring 3-4 minutes.

  • 4.

    Add all other ingredients and stir to combine.

  • 5.

    Place lid on pot or cover with foil. Place on middle rack of oven.

  • 6.

    Cook for approx 2 hours or until sauce is thick and fragrant.

  • 7.

    Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

  • 8.

    Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with crusty bread.
