These Malaysian fried bananas are delicious and easy to prepare - and will be a real hit with the kids too! Adam Liaw shows us how...


  • 4 bananas, peeled and whole

  • Batter

  • 1 cup self raising flour

  • 1 tbsp wheaten cornflour

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • 200ml ice cold water

  • oil for deep frying


  • 1.

    In a large bowl, sieve the dry ingredients together and mix through the cold water. Take care not to over-mix the batter; a few lumps is fine.

  • 2.

    Heat the oil to 190C in a wok. Dip the bananas into the batter and slide into the oil. Deep fry for 8-10 minutes until the batter is golden brown and crispy. Remove the bananas form the oil and drain well. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
