Celebrity Come Dine with Me Australia



For the ultimate 'Happy Ending', PR Guru and social commentator Prue Macsween makes a sweet, warm dessert as seen on Celebrity Come Dine With Me Australia


  • Four well-shaped firm pears of a similar size. Pick ones with long stalks.

  • 1 Cinnamon stick

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 500 grams of golden syrup

  • Lemon peel

  • Bottle of good quality red wine

  • Grated ginger (approx. a tablespoon)

  • 4 maraschino cherries

  • Vanilla Bean Ice-cream

  • Large jar of thickened cream

  • 1 can of condensed milk

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste (or add to taste)


  • 1.

    Peel the pears and cut the bottoms so they are flat and sit nicely on the plate. Put into saucepan large enough so they are covered.

  • 2.

    Place all other ingredients into a pot and cook on medium heat to simmer. Keep an eye on pears and occasionally baste with the liquid...turn if necessary.

  • 3.

    Cook until a knife easily penetrates pears. Take pot off stove and remove pears from liquid.

  • 4.

    Place liquid back on stove and reduce to a thick consistency.

  • 5.

    To assemble place pear in middle of the plate. Put cherry on top of pear through stalk. Pour over some of the thickened pear liquid. Serve ice cream on the side in a quenelle shape.

  • Vanilla Bean Ice-cream:

  • 1.

    Whip whole bottle of cream until firm peaks

  • 2.

    Then beat in can of condensed milk and add in vanilla.

  • 3.

    Once combined, place in a tin and stick in freezer until you want to serve it. It doesn't have to be completely frozen.
