Place sugar syrup in a pot with the dates and bring to the boil, cook until soft then add the crushed almonds and transfer to a dish to cool in the fridge.
Combine cream cheese, sour cream, sugar, lemon zest & juice and vanilla in a food processor and blend until smooth, refrigerate.
Lay out puff pastry cut discs out with circle cutters 3 inches across and place date mixture in the center, brush egg wash around the outside, fold and press ends with a folk.
Arrange on a tray with greese proof paper, brush the pastry with melted butter and bake in the oven at 180C for 8 to 10 minutes. Dust with icing sugar and serve with cheese cake dip.
