Enjoy this deliciously sweet dessert using stewed apples topped with a lovely buttery crumble and served with ice-cream or custard.

Ingredients

  • 4 large cox apples, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 4 pear, peeled and quartered

  • 125g unsalted butter

  • 125g dark brown soft

  • zest and juice of 1 orange

  • For the crumble topping

  • 100g spelt flour

  • 100g organic oats

  • 100g butter – cold and cut into chunks

  • 100g demerera sugar

  • Custard, cream or vanilla ice-cream to serve

Method

  • 1.

    Heat the apples, pears, butter, sugar and orange zest and juice until tender but not too soft

  • 2.

    Mix together the flour, oats, butter and sugar to make the crumble topping

  • 3.

    Put the apples into a dish that can go into the oven, top with the crumble mixture and bake for around 25 – 30 minutes at 180C/160 Fan

  • 4.

    Serve with custard, cream or vanilla ice-cream

This is really yummy although a little but too sweet. Also, there is way too much butter in the fruit mixture - 75g would be more than enough. I had to make a bit extra topping to cover my dish. This recipe says it serves 2 but it's more like 4 (unless you have a HUGE appetite!)
