Beef, garlic and pepper are a winning combination in this easy mid-week stir-fry. Delicious as a meal on it’s own with some steamed rice, or serve it as part of a banquet with my Sweet and Sour Pork, Stir Fried Chilli Prawns and Delicious Fried Rice.

Ingredients

  • Coconut oil, for frying

  • 500g beef (rump, sirloin, tenderloin or fillet), in 1cm thick slices

  • 1 green capsicum, roughly chopped

  • 1 red capsicum, roughly chopped

  • 1 small Spanish onion, roughly diced

  • 1 bunch Chinese broccoli, sliced (or similar Asian greens)

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 small knob ginger, minced

  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup

  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves, torn

  • 1½ Tbsp freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 Tbsp Shaoxing Chinese cooking wine

  • 1 Tbsp tamari

  • 1 Tbsp chicken broth

  • 1 tsp sesame seeds, to garnish

  • Steamed rice, to serve

Method

  • 1.

Heat the coconut oil in a wok until just smoking

  • 2.

Add the beef and stir-fry quickly to seal

  • 3.

Add the capsicums and onions and toss, then add the garlic and ginger and toss again.

  • 4.

Add the maple syrup and pepper, then add the Shaoxing wine and deglaze the wok

  • 5.

Add the Chinese broccoli and toss

  • 6.

When most of the liquid has evaporated, add the tamari, chicken broth and basil leaves

  • 7.

Sprinkle over the sesame seeds and serve immediately with steamed rice
