Simple Cheese Scones

Not only is this a great healthy recipe for kids (filled with calcium), it is also a nice simple recipe that they can get involved with and help you out in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 200g self raising flour

  • 50g butter, at room temperature

  • 75g mild cheddar cheese, grated

  • 25g rolled oats

  • 150ml milk

Method

  • 1.

    Preheat oven to 220C.

  • 2.

    In a large bowl, rub flour and butter together until it resembles coarse bread crumbs.

  • 3.

    Stir in the cheese and oats and then add the milk. You can add a little extra milk if the mixture is too dry.

  • 4.

    Dust the bench top with a little flour. Roll the dough out on the bench until it is around 3cm thick.

  • 5.

    Using a round cookie cutter, or small glass that you have dusted with a little flour, cut out 12 – 15 scones. You can re-roll dough if necessary and continue cutting.

  • 6.

    Transfer scones to a baking tray, sprinkle with a little extra cheese and bake for 12 - 15 minutes.
