In Indonesia Fried Tofu with Hot Sweet Sour sauce is usually sold at hawker stalls but home made is more hygienic and it is easy & quick to prepare.
Heat oil on a frying pan or wok over medium heat and fry the tofu until golden brown then put aside
To prepare the sauce:
Pound all the ingredients in a mortar and pestle lightly
Boil the water in a wok. Pour in the mixed ingredients into the wok, stir until well mixed and allow to simmer on a low heat for a few minutes.
If you like Sweet Soy sauce, you may add 1 table spoon to the sauce.
Add the sauce to the fried tofu. You may also cook the mixed tofu & sauce for 5 minutes to allow the sauce penetrate the fried tofu.
The number of chillieds used depends on how hot your prefer the tofu to be.
May also add sweet soy sauce to enhance the taste
