A great party drink, this simple recipe is sure to impress guests at your next bbq.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine (try a Spanish varietal such as Rioja or Zinfandel)

  • 1 lemon, cut into thin wedges

  • 1 orange, cut into thin wedges

  • 2 tablespoons sugar

  • 2 cups ginger ale or soda water

Method

  • 1.

    Pour wine into a large jug.

  • 2.

    Squeeze the juice of the lemon and orange wedges into the wine, being careful to avoid the pips.

  • 3.

    Add the squeezed wedges into the jug.

  • 4.

    Add sugar and give it a good stir. Chill overnight if possible (if not use chilled wine).

  • 5.

    Just before serving add the ginger ale or soda water and plenty of ice cubes.
