Simple scones are a perfect afternoon tea time treat with a hot cup of tea. Serve with the classic combination of whipped cream and strawberry jam.


  • 3 cups self raising flour

  • 1 cup lemonade

  • 1 cup cream

  • Whipped cream, to serve

  • Strawberry jam, to serve


  • 1.

    Combine the ingredients and mix into a smooth dough. Roll out the dough lightly on to a flour-dredged bench top, around 2 cm thick.

  • 2.

    Cut rounds of dough using a round cookie cutter or the buttered rim of a small glass.

  • 3.

    Place on greased baking paper, brush the tops with beaten egg or milk, and cook in a moderate oven (180C) until lightly golden on top (15 to 20 minutes).
