Yule Log

The traditional French Christmas cake (bûche de Noël), is, as its name suggests, shaped and decorated to resemble a log. Sponge cake is rolled into a log shape (swiss roll) and covered with chocolate or mocha butter cream, which is marked into ridges to resemble bark. It may be decorated with meringue mushrooms and chopped pistachios to resemble moss, with marzipan leaves and berries for holly and sprinkled with icing sugar to represent snow.
