A tropical fruit with rough, brown skin enclosing a creamy yellow pulp with a honey sweet flavour. Make sure the fruit is soft and thoroughly ripe as unripe flesh can be quite bitter. Ripen at room temperature, then store in the fridge. The tree is also a source of chicle, a latex originally used as a chewing gum base.
