Hash Browns

Grated cooked potatoes, which are formed into cakes and fried until browned. The word comes from the French hacher meaning to ‘chop up’. Recipes for hash browns first appeared in the 1900s and were originally called ‘hashed brown potatoes’. Hash browns are popular fast food in North America and can be bought frozen in packets. They are generally deep–fried and eaten with breakfast.
