Originally meaning any animal hunted, killed and eaten, game today refers to those same animals, even if farmed. This includes pheasant, grouse, wild boar, venison and rabbit. Types of game found worldwide vary. In Europe, there is still a strong hunting tradition for feathered and furred game, but there have been some measures taken to protect certain species and much game is now farm–raised. In Africa, game can also include animals such as zebra, which would not be considered an eating animal in Europe. In China, most animals that can be caught are eaten, including bears.
