Small, egg–shaped fruit with thin green skin and a sweet jelly–like flesh. Native to South America, the feijoa belongs to the same family as guava, with which it is sometimes confused. They have a strong, musky smell and taste of a pineapple and banana mix. Use like most other fruit: peel and eat raw or purée and use to flavour ice cream. As the flesh darkens when cut, sprinkle it with lemon juice. Choose fruit that have a strong fragrance and are slightly tender to the touch.
