A classic French patisserie item made from two or three discs of meringue interspersed with whipped cream or butter cream, which is typically flavoured with coffee or mocha. The meringue contains crushed almonds or hazelnuts, and fruit such as raspberries and strawberries may be mixed in with the cream. Dacquoise is also the name given to the meringue discs used to make the cake.
