Chef Rene Rodriguez was born to be a chef. Although he was born in Ottawa, he left the capital at a young age and spent the majority of his youth living in Mexico.
René first started honing his art at the ripe old age of 12. He was working in his uncle’s restaurant around delicious food and tantalizing Mexican aromas. Six years later, at the age of 18, Rene returned to Ottawa and started working as an apprentice cook. He spent the next five years working in various restaurants in the Ottawa region exploring his passion for food and building a life for himself in Canada.
At the age of 24, he enrolled Le Cordon Bleu Cooking School program and then went on to complete his Red Seal Certification and culinary courses at Algonquin College. With his education behind him, Rene mastered his skills working as a Sous Chef at two of Ottawa’s trendy hotspots – the Ironwood Café and at Luna Bar And Kitchen.
Today, Rene is the Chef de Cuisine at the fine dining ARC Lounge. His menu oozes creativity. The delicate and delicious display of each course makes the meal as enjoyable to the eye as is it to the palette.
Rene gets his inspiration from reading various chefs’ cookbooks and traveling to taste the creations of his favorite Chefs. His Mexican upbringing, is only one of the many regional influences Rene utilizes in his food.
When not working, René indulges in his passions for classical music, traveling and dining in world-class restaurants and working in famous kitchens such as the Fifth Floor in San Francisco.
