Red Symons has established himself in the entertainment industry as musician, author, stage and screen performer, record producer, composer and columnist .
Most recently he is a breakfast announcer on ABC 774, Melbourne.
In his early days Red found fame as the lead guitarist with the immensely popular and ground-breaking Australian Glam Rock band ‘Skyhooks’. They had an enormous impact on Australian social life by referencing taboo subjects such as sexuality, politics, drugs etc. They enjoyed major success on the Australian music charts with hits such as “Horror Movie”, "Ego Is Not a Dirty Word" and “Living in the 70’s”.
His popularity as a media personality was evidenced during his years with the long-running and hugely popular television program, Hey Hey it’s Saturday where he played the quick witted, acerbic, yet endearing talent judge on the weekly “Red Faces” segment. Over the years Red has appeared on many other shows such as Neighbours, Celebrity Big Brother, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and the National IQ Test where he was officially crowned “Australia’s smartest celebrity” which he jokingly describes as being an oxymoron.
Red describes his taste in food as broad “I can wander around the zoo and speculate about the flavour of each animal”. He has eaten fish, fowl, reptile and insect. The only organ that he would not go back to is brains. “They don't put up enough of a fight”.
