A plasterer from Brisbane, Max is a contestant on series 3 of The Great Australian Bake Off.
Born and raised in France, Max was a professional track and field athlete, racing the 100 metre sprint at a national level. But when it comes to baking in the Bake Off Shed, Max knows it’s a marathon race requiring attention to detail. “I am a little bit nervous about having my bakes judged by Maggie and Matt,” says Max. “I didn’t expect my baking would ever lead to being on TV, but here I am!”
Homesickness led Max into baking, with the painter and plasterer hungry for a taste of home when he moved to Australia nearly four years ago. “I wasn’t really into cooking in France, but I missed my mum’s cooking when I first moved here,” says Max, who also regularly volunteers for the Pyjama Foundation and bakes for foster children. “And I started to bake; I love my pastries, obviously croissants and my tarts.” Meeting his now fiancée in his first week of being in Australia, naturally Max knows how to win over his love’s heart. “She loves when I bake but sometimes she says ‘enough’!” he laughs. “She loves it when I make croissants for breakfast.” With all that delicious French baking, luckily Max still regularly runs!...
