Maria Lantelme is the Owner and Head Chef of Lolliopop Cakes and Cookies located on Glenferrie Rd. in Hawthorn, Melbourne. Born in Argentina and moving to Melbourne in 2002 Maria still remembers the first time she made macarons. They were on the menus at most of the establishments in which she worked so she had to learn quickly about the French pastry.
When starting out cooking her mother never thought it would become such an obsession and a passion.
Yet this passion is what really drives Maria, she is all about sharing the passion. This has lead to repeat customers being able to hangout in the kitchen while she bakes.
Working at the likes of Le Restaurant, Hotel Sofitel, Cacao fine chocolates and Oyster Little Bourke, Maria now spends her time above a fish and chip shop of all places. Yet despite the strange surrounds she is dedicated to making the finest cakes and pastries.
Maria’s creations are not some much pastries as they are works of art creating Barbie and Toy Story cakes to 5 tiered wedding cakes for clients (who are always willing to help taste test as well).
Maria sees that macarons could have a big impact on the Melbourne and Australian food scene. She believes they are perfect for all occasions that feel slightly special, weddings and garden parties. “They lend themselves to special occasions with the freedom of colours and flavours you can have”. They are different to cupcakes, far more delicate and fine.
