George’s passion for cooking was ignited early in life with a part-time job working for a small caterer in his hometown of Hull, Quebec.
George’s passion for cooking was ignited early in life with a part-time job working for a small caterer in his hometown of Hull, Quebec. Although intrigued by cooking, Georges attended university in Hull with the firm intention of competing a Bachelor degree in education until one of his best friends hinted; why not pursue is career in the food industry? And thus it began…
Georges began his serious cooking career at the famed Café Henry Burger, the National Capital region’s oldest and most respected restaurant. This was followed by internships at the Intercontinental Hotel and The Beau Rivage in Switzerland as well as in restaurants in France and New-York City. He participated in many culinary competitions and was a back up member of the medal winning Ottawa-Hull culinary team that participated in Frankfurt at the 1986 Culinary Olympics.
Georges competitive nature, drive and passion soon led him to opening his own charming French restaurant in his home town of Hull, Quebec. In August of 1995, Georges opened Laurier sur Montcalm. A proud Quebecois, Georges successfully poured his creative energy into a restaurant that had become known for a fabulous menu that always showcased the very best in regional ingredients.
His cooking style, which he refers to as “French actual cuisine” has been a hit. Since April of 2004 ,Georges has proudly rejoined Café Henry Burger as the executive chef. This new challenge brings with it a totally different scale of activity. He now leads a dynamic team of 25 cooks responsible for not only the world class dining experience that is the Café Henry Burger but an extensive catering division servicing the Wakefield Steam Train, the Lac Leamy Casino Fireworks Display, the Canadian Tulip Festival, many government and private functions and most recently a thriving premier cafeteria service in the high tech industry.
In all these events and services, Georges demonstrates his unique passion for great food, strict standards of quality and a wonderful sense of creativity and imagination.
