Dave is an accountant from Sydney and a contestant in series 3 of The Great Australian Bake Off.
When Dave looks at a watermelon or has a craving for candied bacon and red beans, he doesn’t just see a refreshing piece of fruit and a side to go with his eggs – he sees a cake. “As I’m not professionally trained, I have no boundaries and can let my imagination go wild – and I use my cakes to express myself,” says Dave. “It’s completely different to my day job and I can really be creative. Some people have called me the cake wizard because I make weird stuff! I once made an upside down elephant cake! “In terms of cake decoration I love to bake with subtle flavours and use a lot of fresh ingredients you might not normally see in a cake.”
Dave moved to Australia 10 years ago to study and now works in banking and Capital Markets. His day job is at odds with his whimsical bakes, which has earned him multiple prizes at various awards including 1st prize three times at the Royal Arts Show and 2nd in the Australian Cake Decoration Championships.
