Claudia has fond memories of how baking influenced her life while she was growing up. “I’ve been baking since I can remember and I used to bake with my Mum who's German,” says the Mum-of-two who is a psychiatrist. “Mum and Dad used to own a restaurant in Mt Macedon and we have always been a food-orientated family. I used to bake scones for Devonshire tea in the adjoining tearoom when I was growing up; I baked after school and borrowed cookbooks from the library.”
As Claudia’s confidence and know-how have developed over the years, so too has her creativity. She regularly experiments and bakes every week while her family is asleep. “I think a lot about it at the start and then get into the zone when I’m baking,” she explains. “The kids like my baking and my daughter says her friend wants to always come to our house for parties because of the food! ” My kids also tell me what they want and it’s not just your normal cake; there’ll be a request for things like a tree cake, for instance. My son once asked for a snow cake for his birthday so I baked him a big mountain with an edible lake and penguins.”... Read more.
