Fiona’s love of baking began inauspiciously late one night during her early twenties.
“It stemmed from necessity because I was lying down late one night and all I wanted was chocolate cake and nothing was open,” she says. “So I looked in the pantry and started to bake.”
Baking soon became an obsession, and Fiona was soon using all her spare time experimenting in the kitchen.
“I find baking a release from my demanding job,” she says. “I’m learning all the time but baking with a recipe speaks to me because I’m a real method girl. But sausage rolls are always a big failure for me. They just don’t crisp up. I love baking croissants and making bread is great fun.”
Baking is also having a knock-on affect on her bookshelf.
“I love baking cookbooks and I have this great ambition to have a library of cookbooks,” she says. “I started collecting cookbooks a few years ago with a vintage 1902 cookbook because I wanted traditional recipes like scones and sponges and CWA style stuff.”
