World's cheapest Michelin-starred meal hits Melbourne

Singapore's famous Hawker Chan restaurant has arrived in Melbourne.

For only $6.80, Melburnians can now eat the cheapest Michelin-starred meal in the world.

Hawker Chan, an acclaimed Singaporean Hawker restaurant, has officially opened the doors to its new 92-seat venue on Lonsdale St.

Melbourne-based foodies are already putting in the time to wait for a taste of Hawker Chan's famous Soya Chicken and Rice - a meal that will set you back less than $7.

Chef Chan Hon Meng has been serving up his secret Cantonese inspired chicken recipe since 2009, earning his Singaporean food stall a Michelin star in both 2016 and 2017.

Lines at the flagship are known to start forming hours before the restaurant opens, and it seems visitors to the Melbourne branch are in for a similar wait.

Reservations aren't available and there is no table service, with patrons placing orders via an electronic system and picking up their dishes on a tray, canteen style.

Hawker Chan isn't an ideal venue for vegetarians, who will find only tofu and greens on the menu, but lovers of pork, noodles and Chinese-style chicken will be in their element.
