It's official: Pizza is still the favourite takeaway option for Australians nationwide. But what toppings do we go to most when ordering home-delivery?
After identifying the Italian staple is their most ordered cuisine - we gorged on a whopping 4 million pizzas in 2017 - restaurant delivery service Menulog has crunched the numbers to find out what we like to top that pizza pie. And the most popular may surprise you.
It turns out the humble Margherita - a tomato and cheese pizza - far outranked their meat-loving companions. Coming in a surprise second was the divisive pineapple-laden Hawaiian while Pepperoni, Meat Lovers and Supreme took out spots three, four and five.
Does pineapple belong on a pizza? The people may have spoken.
And while the debate over whether or not pineapple belongs on a pizza appears to have shifted according to Menulog stats. Last year 825,000 pizzas were delivered by Menulog. But according to their customers, while 7,000 people chose to remove the tropical treat, 200,000 choose to actually add them to their pizza.
Other hot additions were extra cheese and bacon. Not so popular? Anchovies and olives were the most requested items to be removed from pizzas last year.
