The super-simple recipe for Red Velvet Brownies that Australia loves!

A new video describing how to make red velvet brownies by baker Eloise Head has been labelled "the best recipe ever".

The 26-year-old, who is the founder of FitWaffle Kitchen, an Instagram page which shows that delicious desserts don't need to be complicated to taste delicious, has got nearly 70,000 likes for the easy recipe.

The brownies are made from basic supermarket ingredients like butter, sugar, eggs, flour, vanilla extract and white chocolate chips, plus food colouring to give the treats that classic red velvet look.

You can add cream cheese icing too if you want.

Here's the recipe for Red Velvet Brownies!

  • 170g unsalted butter, melted
  • 260g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red food colouring
  • 200g plain flour
  • 10g cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 90g white choc chips

Cream cheese icing

  • 115g butter, softened
  • 225g cream cheese
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 500g icing sugar

Whisk the melted butter with granulated sugar, then add the egg, egg yolk, vanilla extract and the red food colouring.

Then add flour and cocoa powder and fold in gently.

Add a teaspoon of lemon juice, stir once, then add the white chocolate chips, folding them into the mixture to ensure they're spread throughout.

Spoon the mixture into a 8" x 8" baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake for 27-32 minutes at 160 Celsius. Then leave to cool.

To make the cream cheese, simply whisk butter and cream cheese together before adding vanilla extract and icing sugar, gradually through a sieve.

Then spoon the mixture onto the cooled brownies and smooth over until even. Cut into slices and eat!
