This code will change the way you shop.
If you're someone who cares about the sources of their meat, ALDI has implemented a system to help. A member of the Aldi Mums Facebook group shared her useful discovery.
On the back of the budget supermarket's meat, you can find a small number that holds a lot of meaning. When you look up the number, you can find the exact region that your seafood was fished from.
There has recently been a lot more pressure on Australian food suppliers to be more transparent in where they source their produce. Australian shoppers are also developing a preference for fresh foods produced locally.
So now, savvy customers only need to check their back of their ALDI fish and seafood to find all the information they could want.
The ALDI shopper posted a picture of the code and captioned it: “I know seafood gets a bad call out. I just wanted to share something with you all that I learnt and hopefully it will solve all the ‘do you know where your fish comes from’ dramas.”
She explained the code system, and that each area is represented by a different sequence of numbers that can be looked up.
“You can then look it up to know which areas your fish has come from and what practices they use.”
Members of the Aldi Mums group expressed their gratitude for her sharing her discovery.
“That’s great info! Thanks for sharing,” said one ALDI shopper.
“This is so helpful, thank you,” said another.
“Very useful information thanks for sharing,” someone commented, while another added, “Very interesting. I looked it up on Google. Great how it shows the world areas.”
