The Great Australian Bake Off: Don reveals the special significance behind his aprons

Don's apron-game has been amazing each week! And it turns out, each apron has a very personal significance.

Our Don is known for his punny jokes, kind smile and of course, his wacky, fun aprons! So, we thought we would ask the man himself to tell us all about his fabulous fashion choices in the Shed.

The Kombi apron

"I love Kombis, I grew up with Volkswagens - so it's only natural. Out of all of the aprons I have made, or worn on the show this is the one that gets the comments, and also people asking where they can get one.

"In the first episode I was wearing my Macaron shirt and Kombi apron, this is me in a nutshell, Cars and Cakes!"

The French Chef apron

"The comedy French Chef apron is a bit of fun, I also made a chef's hat to go with this one and Claire did put it on, but that part wasn't shown on air. The other French apron I have is a map of Paris - a little more sedate and serious but still interesting.

"I love Paris now, but the first time I went there in my early twenties I hated the place! It's funny as you get older you change in the way you look at things. Back then I was not really that interested in history, baking or really even culture, I was just a boy from the country."

The Classic Cars apron

"Paris is not my only favourite city, whenever I go to Paris I either start or finish in London. I love the British classic car scene and often attends shows and classic car runs whilst there."

Just the beginning...

Don shares, "I recently auctioned my aprons off to raise extra funds for my Movember fundraiser - where my goal was $500."

He loves making his aprons, but it was only this year during a trip to France did his yearning to expand on his collection grow.

"On my most recent trip I was in Paris for Fashion Week," he shares. "I attended a VIP invitation only event at la Tour Eiffel. This was a fantastic day that included two fashion runway shows. I have always been interested in fashion, and as you can see from the shirts I wear on the show - they are certainly bright and cheerful, to say the least!

"After my trip to fashion week, I am really motivated me to get out the sowing machine and not only come up with more custom aprons, but also develop my range of bow ties, too!"
