Prior to entering the cooking competition at the annual Quamma Harvest Fair, Paul visited Nelleke at her house near Tathra, about an hour South of Tilba on the Far South Coast of NSW for some tips in how to cook up prize winning pumpkin scones.
The Quamma Harvest fair is an annual event held in the small locality of Quamma (pronounced ‘Quor-ma’). The Harvest Fair gives the locals a chance to come together to celebrate the culture and food of their area. It culminates in the cooking competition which requires entrants to create a dish with a particular theme or ingredient. The theme changes annually and this year’s compulsory ingredient, pumpkin, prompted Paul to seek out Nelleke for help in creating the perfect pumpkin scone a dish synonymous with the C.W.A and country cooking competitions.
The competition is open to entrants of all age’s & skill levels. Despite not winning a prize it was an event that gave Paul an opportunity to get a feel for life in a country town, have some fun, make some local connections and learn some new skills.
