Fried ice cream might sound daunting, but this air fryer recipe makes it so simple!
Who doesn't love fried ice cream? It's a blend of incredible extremes: hot and cold, smooth and crunchy. It's one of the most underrated desserts out there!
One of its drawbacks? It feels tricky to prepare. You may feel some hesitation when chucking scoops of ice cream into a scalding hot deep fryer. This is where an air fryer saves the day.
A woman shared her recipe for fried ice cream in the Kmart Air Fryer Recipes Australia Facebook group, and it blew up, with over 300 people commenting on how it was the best homemade fried ice cream they had seen. Here's how it's done:
- 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
- Crushed arrowroot biscuits
- Fine desiccated coconut
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
To begin, shape your ice cream into a solid ball and pop it into the freezer for an hour. Then, take your frozen scoop and roll it in the dry ingredients. Put the coated ball back into the freezer for another hour.

After those 60 minutes, dip the ice cream into the wet ingredients, then followed by dry and set for an hour, then repeat. Then, pop that back in the freezer overnight.
To cook, preheat your air fryer to 200 degrees. Fry your ice cream for 4 minutes. You should have a wonderful golden ball with a frozen creamy centre.
